John Murray Forbes
John Murray Forbes, a prominent American businessman, is his name. Forbes was born in Bordeaux, 23 February 1813, and died in Boston 12 October 1898. He was a railroad magnate and became the president of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad and Michigan Central Railroad during the 1850s.

Forbes was born in New York City 11 August 1839. His parents were John Murray Forbes (c1807-1885) and Anne Howell (c1849-1860). On 8 May 1867, he married Isabel Clark in New York City. They had three boys: William Howell Forbes (1837-1896), Henry De Courcy Forbes 1849-1920, and Paul Revere Forbes (1836-1936). The family owned and ran a number of businesses both in New York and around the world.

Robert Bennet Forbes was a merchant and sea captain in the China trade. He was a Massachusetts native, born near Boston in 1809. He studied briefly in France and then returned to Boston to complete secondary school. He was also active in the opium trade and shipbuilding.
